Local-first, in progress

Run Rivet locally.

Your own workspace. Without a Rivet payment step.

The local app runs on your computer and opens in your browser. This is a developer preview, not a signed desktop installer. The public source release and one-click Mac, Windows and Linux downloads are not available yet.

What runs where?

Local storage and the Rivet server run on your computer. AI analysis still needs a configured model provider. Using an external provider sends relevant input to that provider and may incur its own costs. Installing Rivet does not connect a social account or grant permission to send emails.

The local preview on this machine uses fictional source data and a scripted model to test the interface. It does not demonstrate a live external sign-in or model quality.

A short path to your first report.

  1. Install the local source package.

Requires macOS or Linux with Node.js 24.13 or newer within version 24, plus npm. Windows has not been validated. Obtain the reviewed archive and expected checksum from us, verify it, and extract it into a new folder. From its rivet-local folder:

    npm run local:doctor
    npm run local:install
    npm run local:start

Open http://127.0.0.1:4310/onboarding. Keep the server on this loopback address so it is not exposed to your network. Installation downloads dependencies; real tasks need a separately configured model server. Stop with Ctrl+C.

  2. Connect or import data.

Open Sources, choose a supported connection or import a CSV locally. Provider connections may need their own application setup and credentials.

  3. Ask for a report.

Choose that source, ask a question, then inspect the report’s chart, table and supporting records.

What comes next?

A trustworthy desktop release needs packaged runtimes, signed installers, secure credential storage, updates and tests on each supported system. We’ll publish download buttons when those downloads actually work.
